Week 3 Learning objectives and debriefing The weekly objectives demonstrate the student’s understanding of their learning requirements and describe the steps required to achieve the learning outcome. Individual objectives guide the planning of learning opportunities and allow Clinical educators to determine whether students have achieved the expected learning outcomes. Learning objectives should be SMART. SMART Goals Specific (simple, sensible, significant). Measurable (meaningful, motivating). Achievable (agreed, attainable). Relevant (reasonable, realistic, resourced, results-based). Time bound (time-based, time limited). Every week, the student should set two to three (2-3) learning objectives. Learning objectives may vary among students and the workplace. The student should set specific and measurable objectives, e.g., by the end of this week, provide nursing care to two residents under supervision with minimal assistance from the preceptor. The student should plan and implement strategies in achieving the set objectives. The clinical educator will review and discuss the objectives at weekly meetings, formative or summative assessment meetings. Examples of SMART goals for Semester 2 are given below. Attend orientation to the health care facility and complete relevant work health and safety procedures in place Provide personal hygiene assistance for 3 residents with minimal supervision Complete nursing assessment for 2 client and review their care plan Complete wound assessment and wound care for a client Complete nursing assessment of a client under palliative care and review their care plan.
