Case Study Week 6 Pre-Class Assignment, Caputi Chapter 4 (pages 89-122) Due by start of lecture class, week 6 ! John, a 32 year old roofer, fell off a roof 3 months ago and was consequently paralyzed from the fall. He can eat, speak and turn his head, but he has no use of his arms or legs. John has a wound infection due to a pressure injury on his coccyx. He was in a rehabilitation facility, but is now in the ICU at a local hospital, due to early signs and symptoms of sepsis and due to the amount of intensive care he requires. He developed this wound because he has been extremely angry and upset that his life is over and he frequently refuses care and often refuses to be turned. Prior to the accident, John was preparing to ask his girlfriend to marry him the very next week. Now John has refused to allow her to visit because it is not fair for her to be tied to a cripple. His girlfriend has not called or tried to visit. John is being treated with Vancomycin and is in Contact Precautions for MRSA in his wound. John currently has a PICC line in his right upper arm and has a Foley catheter. (His PICC was placed two days ago and the Foley catheter was changed also at that time). His vital signs this morning are: T. 100.1 po, RP 90 RR20 and pulse-oximeter
